June Has Been in Heaven Since May 27, 2006

March 31, 2006

On March 30, June had the surgery to insert the drain tube in the pleural cavity. The operation went well. She had some discomfort initially and spent about 3 hours in recovery. Dr Ain came in about noon to see how she was doing. He is always encouraging and has a positive attitude. Apparently they drained about 2 liters (about 66 ounces) of fluid from the pleural cavity during the operation. Another liter drained from the tube during the next 12 hours. The drainage will continue over the next 4-5 days and the collapsed lung has already begun to reinflate. A bit of infection has been detected in the lung and antibiotics are being administered. There is a good chance Mom and Ernie will return home for a few days before the hip surgery. It is anticipated June will have hip replacement surgery in Atlanta, in about 2 weeks.

After June returned to her room she discovered that the communications and bed were not plugged in and she was unable to call for the nurses or adjust the bed. After 30 minutes or so, she called on God to help her. She asked Him to "Please send me some help." A minute or so later a lady walked into her room and asked mom if she needed anything. Mom asked the lady if she could plug the bed in. She did so and then said, "You don't have any lunch." June had not seen this lady before or since then, and she was not one of the nurses. She thanked God for helping her out. Mom referred to lady as the angel that was sent to help her. She rested comfortably the rest of the day.
Ernie experienced some of his stomach discomfort, and had not slept much the night before. Since they had only brought enough clothes for 4 days, it was time to do laundry.

June is resting and recovering today. Ernie has been at her side as much as they will allow, and returns to St. Agnes House in the early evening.
Sendi, the family dog has waited for the loves of her life to return. She misses them but has adapted to living without them the best she can.

Thank you everyone for loving June and Ernie the way you do. Your love is soooo appreciated and your cards and comments mean so much!
